The focus of the celebration varies from the general celebration of respect, appreciation and love for women to the economic, political and social achievements of women.  Since the festival began as a political event initiated by socialist feminists, it has merged with many cultures, mainly in socialist countries.

The observance of International Women's Day has become a rallying call for women's rights and women's participation in political and economic affairs
